BIOGRAPHY

Celebrated as a musician “who performs with clarity, precision, and sensitivity” (The American Organist), Kathleen Scheide has concertized as an organ and harpsichord soloist throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Russia, the Far East, and the Caribbean. She has received touring artist grants from the Arkansas Arts Council, California Arts Council, the American Embassies in Prague and Vienna, and the Czech Embassy in St. Petersburg. She often plays orchestral continuo and chamber music and is the keyboardist of the Capital Philharmonic Orchestra of New Jersey. 

Dr. Scheide plays a significant 1893 Roosevelt organ at Peace Lutheran Church in Perkasie, Pennsylvania. She has a particular interest in old American organs and organ preservation. In previous positions, she has overseen the restoration of five organs, three historic, including the relocation and installation of Organ Clearinghouse instruments by Giles Beach and George Jardine. She also teaches applied music at Rowan College at Burlington County, New Jersey. 
 

A published composer with a significant discography, Scheide's compositions are available through Darcey Press, E.C. Schirmer, Lorenz, Piano Press, Time Warner, Wayne Leupold, and World Library. Her recordings are available on Dutch HLM, Organ Historical Society, Palatine, and Raven labels. She writes on commission.
She earned degrees in early music (with honors) and organ performance (organ department prize) at the New England Conservatory and the University of Southern California. Her teachers have included John Gibbons and Cherry Rhodes.

 

Dr. Scheide is a Past Dean of the San Diego Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, current Sub-Dean of the Philadelphia Chapter, and Vice-Chair of the 2028 National Convention.

 

She also volunteers for sighthound dog rescue.
